WHOLESOME DOGGIE GRAVY

Make your own delicious doggie gravy to moisten drier meals and also to give your dog a nutritionally rich sauce that will boost well-being too. You can use strained stock water made from broiling organic meat bones for the liquid if you like but don't be tempted to add anything but water to the bones when you cook  them.

INGREDIENTS

2 tsp Engevita nutritional yeast flakes

1  teacup of spring water

3 fresh sage leaves (or ½ tsp dried)

5 fresh oregano leaves (or ½ tsp dried)

1 tsp hemp flour for nutty flavour or 1 dsp. flaxmeal

METHOD

Bring the water to the boil and turn down to a simmer. Add the yeast flakes and herbs. Stir until the flakes are dissolved. Add the hemp flour and whisk through. Place a lid on the pan and turn off the heat, leaving the flavours to marinate for about 10 minutes. Strain the gravy and pour over your dog's meal. You can serve this gravy twice a week.

Do not be tempted to add salt, stock cubes or gravy granules to the mix. They are not necessary to the dog's tastes nor are they good for dogs.

CHEWY BEEF JERKY

INGREDIENTS

1 organic raw sirloin beef steak

PREPARATION - Warm the oven to 70C/150F

METHOD

Chop the steak into thin strips and then flatten them on the board. Slice in half again trying to keep the strips more or less evenly sized. Place in the top of the oven over a cooling rack so that the meat is raised and thus in contact with as much circulating air and heat as possible.

Leave in the oven for 1 ½ hours, turn the strips and leave in the oven for a further 1 hour. For a crispier/drier chew; heat for 1½ and not 1 hour after turning. Cool completely before storing in an airtight container. Keep in the fridge and use within 7 days.
